| The Astor House Hotel is located on the north side of Huangpu River, near Garden Bridge and close to the Bund and Nanjing Road. It was previously known as Richard's Hotel and was established in 1846 by the Richards family, and was the very first western hotel in the whole of China. In 1907, the hotel was restored as a neo-classic Baroque structure. Over the past 150 years, Astor House Hotel has retained its glorious architectural essence, epitomizing the historical nature of the city of Shanghai. The hotel was renovated to its former elegance in 2002. |
